Trekking Huayhuash Mountain Range

Day 1: Huaraz – Chiquian - Llamac

In the morning, we will arrange the transportation from the city of Huaraz to the small village of Llamac. Our drive (about 2½ hours) will take us first to the town of Chiquian from where after a short stop we will continue to Llamac village. Our first camp is located at 3250 m of altitude (10660 ft).

Day 2: Llamac – Jahuacocha

From Llamac we will start our hiking circuit towards the beautiful Jahuacocha Lake. The trail follows the shores of the Llamac River, crossing beautiful natural gardens, finally arriving at the impressive campsite at 4050 m of altitude (13120 ft). From here, we have a great view of the amazing Cordillera de Huayhuash and its impressive mountains: Yerupaja, Jirishanca, Rasak and others. Breakfast, lunch box and dinner included.

Hiking time: 5-6 Hours

Day 3: Jahuacocha – Matacancha

Continuing our circuit to the side of Jahuacocha and Laguna Solterococha, we will ascend to the Sambunya pass at 4750 m (15580 ft), with spectacular views. We then descend to the valley arriving to our campsite in the place known as Matacancha at 4100 m (13450 ft). Breakfast, lunch box and dinner included.

Hiking time: 6-7 Hours

Day 4: Matacancha – Mitucocha

Today we will start crossing our second spectacular high Andean pass known as Caccanampunta at 4750 m (15580 ft). We are rewarded with great views of the east side of Huayhuash mountain range. Later, we will arrive at our campsite located close to Laguna Mitucocha at 4100 m (13450 ft). Breakfast, lunch box and dinner included.

Hiking time: 6-7 Hours

Day 5: Laguna Mitucocha – Laguna Carhuacocha

After breakfast, our trekking heads towards the next pass at Carhuac Punta at 4600 m/15090 ft. Later, we will descend to our camp located at the beautiful Carhuacocha lagoon. Today will be a short day, where you have nice opportunities for fishing in the afternoon, or relax on the lake area Breakfast, lunch box and dinner included.

Hiking time: 6-7 Hours

Day 6: Carhuacocha – Huayhuash

A morning start will take us across the Atocshayco pass at 4800 m/15250 ft with marvelous views of the Siula and Quesillococha lagoons and the surrounding mountains: Carnicero, Siula, Yerupaja and many more. Then we go down towards our next camp located close to the small settlement of Huayhuash. Breakfast, lunch box and dinner included.

Hiking time: 7-8 Hours

Day 7: Huayhuash – Viconga Lagoon (Pumarinri camp)

Today we cross the Portachuelo-Huayhuash pass (4600 m – 15088 ft) heading towards the Viconga Lake. We will have great views of the Cordillera Raura. We will then continue our hike until we reach our next campsite at 4150 m (13610 ft) just at the place where we find hot water springs. Here we can enjoy a relaxing dip in the thermal water. Breakfast, lunch box and dinner included.

Hikin time: 6-7 Hours

Day 8: Viconga Camp Resting day

Enjoy a relaxing day at this beautiful place surrounded by snowcapped peaks. Perhaps we also can try to climb to the summit of one of the rocky peaks existing in the area. Breakfast, lunch box and dinner included.

Day 9: Viconga Lagoon – Punta Cuyoc – Quebrada Guanacpatay

An early morning start, will lead us up to the highest pass of the entire loop: the spectacular Cuyoc pass at 5000 m. We will enjoy excellent views of the Puscanturpa massif. We then descend to the Guanacpatay gorge and walking along it we will reach our campsite at 4200 m/13776 ft. Breakfast, lunch and Dinner included.

Hiking time: 8-9 Hours

Day 10: Guanacpatay Camp – Huayllapa Village – Huatiac Camp

After breakfast, we start trekking down the Guanacpatay valley until we reach the pass leading us to the impressive Huayllapa gorge. This trek follows a mountainside trail surrounded by beautiful flowers and waterfalls until we reach the small village of Huayllapa where you can buy some drinks, batteries, etc. From here we descend to a narrow valley located at about 3600 m and later, we ascend to the place known as Huatiac located at 4300 m where we find our camp. Breakfast, lunch and Dinner included.

Hiking time: 6-7 Hours

Day 11: Huatiac Camp – Tapush pass – Angoscancha

After a hearty breakfast, we will head up to the highest point of Tapush pass (4800 m) from where we will enjoy amazing views of the high rocky and icy peaks. Afterwards we start descending to our next camp at the place known as Angoscancha at 4450 m (14596 ft). Our camp offers great views of Mount Diablo Mudo, and other surrounding beautiful mountains of the area. Breakfast, lunch and Dinner included.

Hiking time: 5-6 Hours

Day 12: Angoscancha – Llamac – Chiquian – Huaraz

Our last trekking day will take us back to the town of Llamac (2900 m/9512 ft) where our transport is ready to take us back to the city of Huaraz. Breakfast and Box Lunch included.

Hiking time: 4-5 Hours
